The Whitehouse was delighted to serve lunch for over 100 guests who visited the launch of the  Achabeg Affordable Housing project yesterday at the ste of the new houses (see www.ardtornish.co.uk for info) .  The sun shone and the views down the Sound of Mull were magnificent.  We served, among other things, dressed crab (from Mull of course).

Research from the Sustainable Restaurant Association on what customers want

Posted: 22nd August 2013 at 06:26 pm
The headline messages from our 2013 consumer research conducted by Populus, are that diners are becoming more sophisticated in their understanding of sustainability, and their decision making, they will pay a premium for a sustainable meal and want restaurants to tell them more about all the good things they're doing. Whereas their top priorities have historically focused on sourcing issues, now diners have a broader take on sustainability, as demonstrated in their choice of three top issues they want restaurants to be addressing: food waste, health and nutrition and local sourcing.

Eighty five per cent say they know little or nothing about the social and environmental standards of the restaurants in which they eat, while almost exactly the same number (84%) want restaurants to tell them more about their sustainability.

Just heard we have been short listed for the Highlands and Islands Restaurant of the Year for 2013.  Nerve wracking as we won last year which was fantastic.  I (Jane) went on my own to the awrds as we we so convinced we could not be winers.  What chance of winning two  years in a row? Slim but wonderful to be in the running again.
